Sun Damaged Skin

Damage to the skin from sun exposure can vary from mild to severe, with delayed symptoms sometimes not appearing until years after chronic sun exposure. Symptoms of mild sun damage include discoloration, dullness, rough texture, and dryness. Mild sun damage can be improved by renewing the skin surface and repairing damaged DNA with use of the Obagi® medical and non-prescription programs. Symptoms of severe sun damage include the same symptoms as mild, but also may include red scaly lesions that do not heal (actinic keratosis, different types of skin cancers), as well as accelerated aging changes, such as wrinkles. Severe sun damage requires medical evaluation to check for potential skin cancer and treatment of all pre-cancerous lesions. Obagi Nu-Derm® can be used to repair damaged DNA and renew the skin before, during, and after all treatments for sun damage.

A condition known as solar elastosis also exists with chronic sun exposure. Solar elastosis results in deep furrows and lines and yellowish skin tone as a result of damaged and altered tissue elasticity. Treatment of solar elastosis requires laser or Blue Peel® chemical resurfacing.
