Skin inflammation is a common problem, yet poorly understood. Dryness, sensitivity, itching and burning may be the only complaints, along with physical symptoms of skin discoloration and dullness. Several contributing factors may be associated with inflammation and include sun, hot water, environmental irritants (pollution, wind, smoke), cosmetic products such as make-up, and possibly caffeine and alcohol. Using products to temporarily hydrate the skin, such as moisturizers or topical cortisone preparations may actually make the condition worse.
